Local Government Innovation Award

The Hopkins Race and Equity Initiative (HREI) was recognized by the Humphrey School of Public Affairs with a Local Government Innovation Award in 2018, which came with a $5,000 grant to expand the initiative's work.

HREI, a collaborative effort between the City of Hopkins, the Hopkins Police Department, Hopkins Public Schools and Gethsemane Lutheran Church, creates opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of race, equity and diversity, while promoting a sense of community that welcomes and values all residents.

Hopkins One of Best Places in MN To Start A Business

In 2015, NerdWallet, a consumer finance website, conducted a study to find the best places in Minnesota to start a business - and Hopkins ranked 19th of 123 places studied in Minnesota with populations of 5,000 or more. With a population of 17,785, the city of Hopkins has 1,651 businesses and features high average revenue per business ($2,543,037). Hopkins also enjoys a high percentage of businesses with paid employees (36.8%). These factors have helped maintain a strong local business climate for aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Forbes Ranks Hopkins as the 13th Friendliest City in the U.S.

In 2012 Forbes.com, along with Nextdoor.com, examined over 1,000 cities with populations between 5,000 and 150,000 to find the 15 friendliest cities in America. Hopkins was ranked as number 13. 

Hopkins Recognized as Third Most Walkable City in Minnesota

Hopkins: Blue Star Award Winning Community

Hopkins was one of the first four cities in Minnesota to have won the Blue Star Award. Blue Star Award-winning communities are those that are taking a leadership role in protecting Minnesota's water resources and public health through excellence in stormwater management.
