2011 Hopkins In Motion — A Success
The third annual Hopkins in Motion, held on Saturday, September 17, was a success! Here are some highlights of the day's events:
- Attendees shopped the Farmers Market and sampled its Bouja, a rich, hearty soup featuring produce from Market Vendors.
- Kids jumped rope, played hopscotch, hula-hooped, had their bikes checked by Tonka Cycle & Ski Bike Medics and participated in the Bike Safety Challenge.
- The Hopkins Raspberry Royalty decorated bikes and trikes at their Bike Decoration Station.
- Scaling Three River’s Park District 30-foot Climbing Wall was an adventuresome group of youngsters – determined to reach the top of that wall.
- Free Face Painting was provided by the talented artists of the Hopkins Minnetonka Recreation Department.
- Attendees enjoyed the Belly Dancing demonstrations from Hopkins Community Ed and listed intently to the Village Drummers on the Downtown Park Bandshell stage.
- Adults and kids alike learned Zumba and Hip-Hop as they joined the instructors from the YMCA at Ridgedale in high energy and fun-filled demonstrations.
- The Hennepin County Master Gardeners answered a multitude of gardening questions, while attendees checked out the compost bins and rain barrels in the Green Corner.
- Hopkins Dance Center students showed the crowd their practiced dance steps, followed by the Crystal National Karate Team with an energy-filled demonstration by their multi-disciplined team.
- The Hopkins Historical Society presented their “Step-Back-in-Time” tours of our historic Mainstreet to the delight of history buffs from throughout the area.
- Prize Passport participants kept “on the move” taking their passport to various locations to have them stamped – and were then eligible to win prizes including the grand prize of a bike from Tonka Cycle & Ski. (Value $400!)
- Vendors offered a variety of services, products and food, as the Roller Girls skated up and down the avenue. At 12 noon the Hopkins Artstreet People’s Choice and Children’s Choice awards were announced from the stage.
- The Community Parade started at 1:30pm, led by jazz favorites the Mouldy Figs, Hopkins Bike Patrol, the Roller Girls, Raspberry Festival Royalty, Hopkins Dance Center and community participants who rode bikes, skated or walked the parade route.
Special thanks to those who made this event possible: City of Hopkins and the Hopkins Business & Civic Association, and our sponsors: Hopkins Historical Society, Park Nicollet,
