The need for a community theatre first surfaced during a City of Hopkins visioning process that was conducted over an 18-month period starting in 1999. In that process it was identified that not only is this form of expression needed to bring performance art opportunities to a wide, diverse audience, but it is also needed to build connections between people from varying backgrounds, age groups, cultures and beliefs to strengthen the fabric of the community. This was determined by a representative group of Hopkins residents and businesses, including senior citizens, youth, homeowners, multi-family dwellers, under-represented groups, non-profits, small and large employers, current and former government representatives (a group totalling over 80 in number) who came together in a facilitated way during the visioning process. One of many initiatives stemming from this process was Community Theatre.

Now in its seven season, Shoestring Players has performed over a dozen productions to hundreds of audience members, involving dozens of cast members and volunteers. For more information, please e-mail j4bkzt@aol.com.
