Walkability
Walking opportunities abound in Hopkins
One of the many advantages Hopkins offers is “walkability” to almost any destination in the City. Hopkins has an extensive sidewalk and trail system linking employment centers, neighborhoods, and community areas, including the historic downtown district.
The Southwest Regional LRT Trail goes right past the Depot Coffee House, where trail parking is available.
The Historic Walking Tour brochure is available to guide residents and visitors on a stroll past the sites and buildings that shaped the City.
Hopkins is also at the epicenter of the extensive metro-wide trail system. From the Depot Coffee House you can head east on the trail to the Minneapolis chain of lakes, Midtown Greenway, Mississippi River trail and St. Paul; west of the Depot the trail extends to Chanhassen. Another trail just north of Hopkins Mainstreet brings walkers and bikers past Lake Minnetonka, through Excelsior, to Victoria. The Three Rivers Park District provides a map of these trails.
How does Hopkins' "walkability" rate?
The website Walkscore rates the walkability and distances of locations entered by visitors. The site gave Hopkins City Hall’s address a rating of “very walkable.” If you want to map your route ahead of time, visit webwalking.com and use their Google Maps pedometer.
